Which character to go for Titles, factions, etc on?
Hi everyone
I'm very new to Guild Wars and enjoying it a lot. Can't believe I'm 7 years late to the party! Anyway, I have a few questions. Eventually I'd like a HoM but right now, I'm just learning the ropes. I'm most familiar with a Paragon (reaching the end of the Nightfall I think), a 16 Factions Warrior and a level 8 Ele who's sitting in Pikken's Square. While I really like my Paragon, I almost find playing a Warrior or Ele, erm, "easier"? "More effective"? "More, involved"? I dunno. Perhaps it's because I am getting familiar with the game? Anyway, I'm looking for advice on which profession to choose as an "Achievement" monkey. On what character do I ought to grind factions and do Vanquishing and HM etc? Or is it irrelevant? Thanks IGN: Pyrano Ar Pharazon (if you're looking to play with a low maintenance noob!) |

I interpret your post to mean that you are interested in creating a character for the GWAMM title. I also assume that you have all the campaigns, as you didn't provide enough information to indicate otherwise.
Since you are new, I am going to assume that you do not yet have any maxed account-based title. All your current characters are low level enough that starting a new character for GWAMM, isn't too much of a waste of earlier efforts. This means that if you are going for the GWAMM title, you should probably start from prophecies to get the LDoA title in pre-searing. For prophecies, you have to choose between Warrior, Mesmer, Elementalist, Necro, Ranger, and Monk depending on your personal play style and liking. The choice of "achievement monkey" as you call it is is really going to be your choice. which profession do you find more enjoyable, easier to work. More challenging to your gaming style. You can achieve the HoM rewards with whichever profession you really want to play and learn well. It's just going to really depend on what you prefer to play. Caster? Melee? Midline? backline? in your face? you have to decide

Yes, IMO that is irrelevant... it's important that you play a class that you really like. But it helps if you have experience with all classes. Nowaday most players play with heroes (or guildies), so knowing other classes helps you creating better builds that work in your team (fitting your gamestyle).

Indeed, which profession you choose is irrelevant. Try out some different professions and choose the one you like most to continue hunting titles with, as you'll be spending a lot of time on your title character.
During your regular play (when not grinding titles, but playing through the story), you'll learn what works and what doesn't, so you can use your chosen profession effectively. |

If you want God Walking Amongst Mere Mortals, you will have to choose a single character to get 30 titles on. In that case, the best one to do it is the one you most enjoy playing, because you will be playing it a lot.
For what it's worth, the paragon's limitations are not your imagination -- most of the player community feels the profession is in need of a buff to break it out of its rut. Many feel ranger is also in need of some love, but if you should choose that class, realize the Expertise attribute gives it a lot more leeway to get around its current shortcomings by exploiting secondary professions. Aside from that caveat, any class is capable of getting the title. However, if you're only interested in filling your HoM, bear in mind that the statues added by any character on your account count towards your Hall's total progress. So multiple characters can contribute. (Some statues require filling multiple tracks, though, so you'll have to concentrate on them with a single character.) Also: Some tracks are account-based. I'm not sure if you're referring to Luxon/Kurzick when you mention "grinding factions" -- if so, don't worry about them, because they fall into that category. |

Start with prophecies, legendary defender of ascalon is easy. Then play the 3 campaigns and eotn. Then protector, carto, VQ, skill and master of the north. By this time you should have gotten close to maxing out sunspear, light bringer and the eotn reps. In the meantime start filling out HM books, 3 of each will give you survivor and top off any rep titles. Then get the 2 faction savior ones.
with dedication 4-6 months. |

I personally would not reccommend a Warrior for your "Achievement Monkey". I have used a Warrior, as it was my first char, and pre-titles, but it is by far not as easy as some of the other classes.
But it doens't matter too much, just pick what you enjoy. Starting in Proph and going for LDoA is slow, but gets you an easy extra title over other campaigns. |

I'm just on the verge of beating Prophicies myself, so I'm certainly no title expert; but I've had good fun with a Ranger and Warrior; I like Ele's but while my Ranger does not roll the same big numbers on the screen; she kills real good. Honestly I think, as was touched on below; pick a Toon with a Fighting style you like, if you want to be in the thick of the Fray, a Warrior is good; if you like to stand back and direct, a Ranger or an Ele. If you LYAOF when someone blows themselves up, a Mesmer. I think if your honest with yourself about your style the class will suggest itself. Blessings, BB. I have 3 gwamms so far - ele, ranger, rit. The ele and rit were obtained before the recent updates to buff them, and I found the ranger the easiest one to get. 5% Cantha to get gwamm on my necro, and I'm also half-way to getting gwamm on my para, and the only 'problem' that I've had so far is that if I've needed to pug anything on her, it's "imbagon" only. Anyone who tells you that one profession is 'easier' than another can be ignored. Choose whichever profession you enjoy playing the most, because you'll be playing it a lot. However, you'll also need some account-wide titles, so for those (such as kurz/luxon) and maybe farming for consumable titles it can help having other characters, so that you can have a break from your main title hunter.

I'll second (or third) what was said above. Try a bunch of different classes and find the one that fits your play style and that you enjoy playing the most. I use my derv for that but also enjoy playing my para and ranger.
I'm still trying out the ele and mesmer but I just can't seem to wrap my head around casters... |

a bit late, but Paragon is a wonderfull class to play, but you are right, they are a bit limited when compared to other professions. My main character is my ele wich has the HoM almost filled (and i cbb with the last very expensive points tbh). I do enjoy playing my paragon a lot though just because of the difference and challenge to make it very good (without running just another imbagon build).
In the end all professions can make max out the HoM. So play what you like best. Experiment with other classes and compare them. for example, when you get your ele on max lvl, do a mission wih it, and afterwards repeat it with your paragon. Wich way did you enjoyed it the most? |

Accountwide titles can be important - they mean some titles can be worked on regardless of which chr you are using.
Eg when doing factions hm you may also farm say luxon rep on a warrior and maybe another time get in a team as a rit - both rep got from them will be universal and count towards which ever chr/profession you decide to be a titles chr.Personally my sins the title chr but i farm luxon rep in a few places as necro - so it doesnt matter which earns it. |

Make as many professions as you can afford or desire to make. Enjoy the game and the titles will come to you. If you like playing alone, then there are heroes or henchmen to fill your party. However, if you want real people then there are guilds that you could join. The most important part is to enjoy the game.

imo most professions should be fairly equal for title hunting on, although I personally find playing monk a pain as I don't like smiting and it is hard to flag heroes and heal them at the same time. I got my gwamm on an ele, but am having no issues doing it on a warrior atm too.

True but without account wide titles, to get GWAMM, you have more limited choices. You can either max out sweet tooth which is an expensive title, or you have to make a prophecies character and work on LDoA which limits your choices of primary professions to the core 6.

I GWAMMed on my derv, before the redo of most derv skills and really had little problems with it. Once i started focusing on it, really took not much time at all. Now working on my rit. As with the derv i find rit very enjoyable to play. And like everyone else said, thats really the key. That said, para waas one of the first professions i played and i will admit while i did get quite far in it, it was taxing and at some point just lacked the ooompf that some of the other characters have for me to continue. Ive been waiting for anet to make paras more powerful for...when did nightfall come out lol?

My ranger is my GWAMM. I have others on the way as well, but I'm not wanting to max all the consumable titles again. It all depends on what you enjoy playing as it's possible on any profession. Find a profession that you like, and work on that one. Try them all out until you get the feel of them if you need to.
